The facility, originally constructed by Newmont Ghana as a library, was successfully repurposed through a collaborative effort between the Church, Nananom, and the government, and is now placed under the care of St. John of God Hospital, Duayaw Nkwanta.
The commissioning ceremony took place on Wednesday, 30th April 2025, and was graced by the Bishop of Goaso, Most Rev. Peter K. Atuahene. Also in attendance were a delegation from the Chief of Afrisipakrom, a representative of the MCE, Hon. Pious Opoku, members of the Ghana Police and Fire Services, officials from Newmont Ghana, health workers from sister facilities, and members of the local community.
In his address, the Bishop decried the influx of unprescribed medications, often fueled by local information centers for monetary gain, which he described as a growing health threat in rural communities. He also made a passionate appeal to stakeholders especially traditional leaders and government officials to assist in providing accommodation for health workers stationed at the new clinic.
During the event, the Vicar General, Monsignor Matthew Addai, took the opportunity to formally introduce the new Director of Diocesan Health Services, Mr. Michael Ayamga, to the public.
Both the representative of the Municipal Chief Executive and the delegation from Nananom pledged their full support for the success and sustainability of the clinic.
The Catholic Diocese of Goaso continues to demonstrate its commitment to healthcare through a network of well-established facilities across the region. Major hospitals include St. John of God Hospital in Duayaw Nkwanta, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Hwidiem, and St. Edward’s Hospital in Dwinyama.
Supporting these are several facilities including St. John’s Health Centre in Domeabra, Holy Spirit Clinic in Dantano, St. Peter’s Clinic in Donkorkrom, St. Joseph’s Clinic in Bechem, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Clinic in Mim, and now the newly commissioned St. Raphael Clinic in Afrisipakrom.
These facilities reflect the Diocese’s dedication to accessible, quality, and compassionate healthcare.
